Volunteer with cat

A Voice for the
Forgotten
Neighborhood Kitties

Forest Hill Friends was born out of Linda Lobdell's compassionate vision for the street cats of Newark, NJ.

"I saw neighborhood kitties suffering with no one to step in. They didn't just need food—they needed medical intervention and a pathway to a safe life."

Case-by-Case Intervention

We are a unique "bridge" rescue. Instead of standard public adoptions, we direct all our resources to veterinary health and intensive stabilization.

We make a commitment to each cat to see them through whatever they need to improve their prospects. Foremost, all cats are neutered and vaccinated.

  • Feral cat injuries are treated and they are housed until fully recovered before returning to their turf.
  • Friendly cats are brought along step by step into the best shape possible for adoption.
  • Kittens are worked with to socialize them to humans so they can be adopted.
  • Some cats are not feral but for one reason or another, not candidates for adoption. In those cases, we may provide much longer-term housing and care.
